What is the Born Learning
campaign?
Have a child
sort the laundry to learn colors. Help nurture a child's language
skills by singing songs or reading signs. Help initiate a child's
math skills by counting fingers and toes or foods and toys!
Born Learning
is a public engagement campaign that helps parents and child
care providers explore how to turn everyday
moments into fun learning opportunities for children
from birth to age five.
What happens
in a child's early years matters - for success in life and a strong
start in school. Yet for parents, caregivers and child care providers,
it's hard to know exactly how best to guide a child's development,
or help the child get the best start in school. And it's hard to
find time in an all-too-busy day. Born Learning aims to help parents
turn everyday moments into learning opportunities.
Born
Learning - Clark County aims to help! The campaign will offer tools to help communities
provide children with the high-quality early learning experiences
they need.
Campaign Highlights
In June 2006 SELF launched the Born Learning Clark County public awareness and engagement campaign. The campaign involves an annual Family Fair, Born Learning resource corners across the county (see list here) and information that enables parents to succeed as their child's first teacher.
The 2007 Born Learning Family Fair will be held on Saturday, May 12, from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm in downtown Vancouver's Esther Short Park. The Fair will be a fun, informational event to celebrate families and our youngest children with lots of resource booths, interactive family and children's games, entertainment and much more. See the flier for more details. Send an email to express your interest in hosting a resource booth or exhibit. Born Learning informational materials are available locally from several SELF partners. Email the campaign if you would like a Born Learning speaker for your service club, parent group or staff meeting. |
