their little minds and bodies are growing and changing constantly. Did you know nearly 6,000 babies are born in Clark County each year? That means we have 30,000 early learners that have not yet entered kindergarten. Did you know that 90% of brain development occurs in the first five years? Did you know the brain's growth is highly dependent on the experiences a Babies are so precious. When they are born we wonder, "What will he be like when he grows up? Will he do well in school? Will he get along with other kids and be happy?" The answers to these questions depend on the experiences children have. Are their emotional and intellectual needs met? Are their physical needs met? Did you know that between 30% and 50% of children entering kindergarten do not have the skills they need on the first day of school to succeed? The SELF Board of Directors is dedicated to young children in our community. We are convinced we need to engage the community conversation regarding decisions we make and the policies we put into place that impact the lives of children. Early in 2012, we will bring to the community comprehensive child data and compelling research to launch the Children Can't Wait campaign.
